SYNOPSIS
At the heart of the Val d‘Anniviers, a region in the Swiss canton of Valais, the Hérens strain of cows are always in the thoughts of their breeders, contributing to the very rhythm of a breeder’s life. The documentary "Queens of the Alps" immerses us in the manicured landscapes of Switzerland as we journey through all four seasons in the lives of Raphy and Olivier, two passionate breeders. They have built strong ties with their cows, call them by name and often compare them to big teddy bears. A distinguishing characteristic of the Hérens breed is their fighting instinct. They battle it out with each other naturally in order to establish a hierarchy. The eventual fight winner is crowned "Queen of the Herd".
