SYNOPSIS
Cyprus's first serial killer, army Captain Nikolas Metaxas ("Orestis"), was caught in 2019 after the discovery of a woman's body in a mine shaft. He targeted vulnerable immigrant women, knowing no one would pay attention to them. He was handed 7 x life sentence, the longest sentence ever pronounced in Cyprus, for the premeditated murder of five foreign women and two of their children. The recovery of seven victims' bodies from remote locations took over two months. This case garnered international attention from outlets like the BBC and The New York Times and led to a major scandal resulting in the firing of the Chief of Police and the resignation of the Justice Minister.
