How have icons endured through the centuries, and what do they reveal about the contemporary Slavic-Orthodox world?
This documentary takes us on a journey from the 6th-century Egyptian monastery of Saint Catherine to the secluded Mount Athos in Greece, the heart of the Orthodox world. We then move to Kyiv, where icon painters persevere amid bombings by the Russian army. Our journey continues to the Cossacks of Chernihiv, near the conflict, and then to the Golden Ring near Moscow, where followers of Andrei Rublev believe in the spiritual power of icons. Finally, we visit the Catholics of Czestochowa in Poland, where icons unite people across borders and doctrines.
